Since opening in 2018 at 1408 S 12th Street, the Palizzi Social Club has been an off-limits dining experience to anyone without membership or its guests. That level of exclusivity has given chef-owner Joey Baldino’s passed-down Sicilian family fare an air of rarity, a psychic secret red sauce to be ladled over everything from his spaghetti and crabs to his brasciole. Yes, you can try to make Baldino’s family recipes from his cookbook, “Dinner at the Club: 100 Years of Stories and Recipes from South Philly’s Palizzi Social Club,” co-written by Adam Erace, but it’s not the same – eat there, or be damned.
In comes High Street on Market to the rescue. As part of its once-monthly pizza party plan, Old City’s High Street on Market, on Friday, February 7, will co-host a collaboration with Baldino and the Palizzi Social Club crew.
Reservations can be made here.
For $75 per person, lovers of High Street and Palizzi can expect family-style style starters, sweets, aperitifs and digestifs, and pizza, along with a signed copy of the Baldini/Erace cookbook. Wine and cocktails will be available for purchase, too. At present, no one is saying what exactly will be served, but if the Social Club’s menu offers any clues expect a pepperoni Stromboli, a Capasante with baked sea scallop, wild mushrooms and Italian bread crumb, and an escarole and cannellini beans dish.
