Eve returns to Philadelphia in an episode of Secret Celebrity Renovation to remodel her childhood home.
A big reveal will happen tonight on national TV on Secret Celebrity Renovation when rapper Eve returns to her Philly roots to give her family a home makeover. The mission of the new one-hour series is to give celebrities in sports, music and entertainment the chance to gift a surprise home renovation to a meaningful person who helped guide them to success.
The West Philly-born, Germantown-reared singer, songwriter, actress, television presenter, and talk show hostess has always heralded her hometown and credits her success to her supportive and equally fashionable family: her mother, Julie Wilch a former model and special event producer; and father, Ron Wilch, aka the “Wardrobe Doctor” and CEO of the Wardrobe Clinic. Considered among the most successful women in hip-hop, Eve began her career in the late 1990s on the Ruff Ryder label. Her 2001 platinum album Scorpion featured the hit singles “Who’s That Girl” and the Grammy-winning “Let Me Blow Ya Mind”.
The multi-hyphenated artist, who splits her time between the U.S. and her London home with husband Maximillion Cooper, was hand-on during the project, grabbing a paint roller for the first time ever, and naturally advising host Nischelle Turner on her family’s taste in updating the classic row house she grew up in. Eve also took a trip down memory lane with a visit to the middle school where she formed a girl group and one of her early recording studios.
“This house has been constant work with small things whenever possible,” said Eve as the home improvement contractor reviewed the property.
“My wife is so happy, she doesn’t want to go anywhere and it’s a beautiful thing because I can’t wait to get home and chill at my fireplace. They rearranged and reconstructed our kitchen with marble countertops, new refrigerator, and dishwasher. They gave us all the bells and whistles,” said Wilch, an evidently proud poppa.
“Initially, it was put on hold because of the pandemic but they had to be on time so they squeezed us in in April. The producers put us up in a highrise apartment for two weeks, and gutted my house from the front porch to the patio. We had to give away our furniture, dining room set, porch set… Even my barbecue grill!”
On that disclosure, the ebullient fashion designer explained: “You know, how a Black man is possessive of the barbecue grill? You mean to tell me you want me to throw away my barbecue grill? And the producers were like, ‘Yeah, everything gotta go.’ And they gave me a beautiful Big Green Egg.”
He added: “Who knew that the Wardrobe Doctor – a humble and proud father, family man and husband who’s fixed the hem of so many garments – would be on national TV?”
When asked how he was going to celebrate, he mused: “I’ll probably sit on the back porch, look at the city lights, light a cigar and drink some Kool-Aid.”
Sounds perfect to me.
Secret Celebrity Renovation premieres Friday, July 30 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The episode will also be available to stream live and on-demand on the CBS app and Paramount+.
