Since its start in 1998, wowing audiences with their mixed brand of neo-burlesque, vaudeville and bawdy cabaret – traditional and future-forward – Philly’s Peek-A-Boo Revue has been one step ahead of the game. Whether you look at their evolution-revolution from the days of The 5 Spot in Old City, up through its present-day of educational programs (you can still take virtual classes at the Philadelphia Burlesque Academy via Facebook and Instagram), international competitions and offshoots such as the Star Trek/Star Wars/Dr. Who-themed musical ensemble, The Roddenberries, the Peek-A-Boo Revie has always boldly gone where no man, woman, or burlesque troupe has before.
Lulu Lollipop, the director, manager, booking agent, costume designer, chorus girl, and, absolutely den mother of the Peek-a-Boo Revue, which often appears at World Cafe Live (when it’s open, pre-and-post COVID-19), once told me “We still have followers that have been with us since the glory days of the Five Spot,” the Old City home to Peek-a-Boo that burned in 2007, “but now there’s a new group who has come to love us.”
Will Peek-a-Boo’s following, new and old, follow them into the netherworld of the internet? They’ll find out tonight, Friday, May 29 at 8 pm, as the troupe hosts its first-ever web-bash with the brand new, pay what you can, burlesque of CYBER SNAX.
“Our virtual Vaudevillians can’t wait to shimmy off their sparkly wrappers and shake their giga-bits tonight,” writes Sweet Muff Johnson and Salty Count Scotchula of CYBER SNAX and its live, interactive, after-party where viewers can compete for three audience prizes: MOST GLAMOROUS, FUNNIEST QUARANTINE LOOK and BEST BACKGROUND. You can tip on Venmo, request tassel twirls, and more.
Being quarantined just got a little bit bawdier.
