Dining and cartooning with the Adult Swim Festival Block Party in Fishtown as the Festival begins on August 5th.
By this point, everyone knows that the Adult Swim Festival Block Party – in dedication to the cult fave channel/streamer part of The Cartoon Network – will be making its Philadelphia debut on Friday, August 5 through Sunday, August 7 in Fishtown’s Fillmore Plaza with everyone from the walking cartoon, Philly’s own Tierra Whack, one-time Adult Swim series stars Dethklok (the nu-metal band behind the Metalocalypse animation) to Killer Mike’s Run The Jewels on stage.
Not quite as loud, but still raging, will be colorful panels for/and screenings of Adult Swim series Rick and Morty (whose next series run, its sixth, starts up in September), Aqua Teen Hunger Force and SMILING FRIENDS.
All that live music. All those goofy cartoons. Because Adult Swim is choosing Philly for its upcoming Block Party, the heavy emphasis on food is a must.
“When we decided to host our event in Philly, it was important to spotlight on not only local musicians and artists, but also the vendors that make the city a foodie heaven,” wrote Jill King, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Partnerships for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim in an email. “We know our fans will enjoy the Cheesesteak Pierogis.”
First, that means the Fried Robot Chicken grilled chicken sandwich with cheddar cheese, thick-cut bacon, and more at Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia. I don’t know everything about Adult Swim, but I know the whole Seth Green Robot Chicken legend. A little bit scarier is the opportunity to dine out on Little Meat Wads (black garlic mayo, pork carnitas, roast beef, peppered pastrami, Swiss cheese, and sundried tomatoes on a brioche roll) at the Fillmore Philadelphia. Not a ball. A Wad. The Punch Line Philly comedy club will welcome the Doctor to Doctor Nachos (I dare you to explain) and The Channel 5 Sampler which, of course, is centered around its cheesesteak dumplings.
This block party would be a great way for the Philly-born Choco Taco to go out in style, as the product is being discontinued soon-ish. Alas, that is not to be. But, because this city – Fishtown, in particular – likes its craft beer, Adult Swim and Other Half Brewing collaborated on a limited-edition pale ale, [adult beer], brewed at their fresh Fishtown location.
