Kimmel Cultural Campus’ welcomes That Golden Girls Show! A Puppet Parody of the Golden Girls.
Yeah, I’m sick of people dying. Mtume. Bob Saget. Betty White got them all beat, however, reaching for the great beyond just before the midnight bells of 2021 evened out. And while we can’t help but mourn their loss and ours with tears, it is humorous and amusing that, as of January 11 at 7:30 pm, White’s Golden Girls 80s to 90s NBC television show, The Golden Girls, will get its own weird tribute at the Kimmel Cultural Campus’ Merriam Theater with That Golden Girls Show! A Puppet Parody.
Here’s one of its webisodes…
Known as “the ultimate Golden Girls experience,” the live staged puppet program originally opened off-Broadway in NYC and has been touring the country since its initial run.
Set in Miami in 1985, the touring production moves from “Sophia’s get-rich-quick schemes, to Rose’s tales from St Olaf, Blanche’s insatiable hunt for men and the Fountain of Youth, and Dorothy’s daily struggle to make sense of her life and keep her roommates in check,” with a handful of talented actors and puppet masters to guide the show.
Miranda Cooper as Sophia, Dylan Glick as Dorothy, Samantha Lee Mason as Rose, Lu Zielinski as Blanche promise “jokes about cheesecake, laughter, jazzercise, shoulder pads, sex, and the elegant art of the quick-witted put down.”
For the uninitiated, Mason’s Rose Nylund is Betty White’s character, and while I tend to think of myself as more Bea Arthur than anyone, I can’t help but imagine that Philly eyes will be on Mason more so than ever for a minute.
