“Brightness in Black”, a collaboration with WHYY and Temple University, is part of the StoryCorps 2024 Mobile Tour. The initiative highlights the profound and uplifting aspects of Black life in America, countering stereotypes and celebrating the diversity within the Black community via engaging interviews, community events, and interactive activities. The “Brightness in Black” program offers a platform for individuals to share inspiring narratives, fostering a broader dialogue.
In its 20th year, StoryCorps has made a significant impact, documenting about 700,000 interviews. These stories are archived in the U.S. Library of Congress and accessible online. StoryCorps’ extensive collection of human voices is the largest ever gathered, and their impactful stories are shared through various media channels, including NPR broadcasts, podcasts, and best-selling books. This work inspires hope and shows the power of storytelling in shaping our understanding of the world.
The “Brightness in Black” initiative is essential in enriching our understanding of the Black experience and promoting knowledge. By giving voice to those often unheard, this collaboration provides a trusted space for unbiased news and conversation, challenging wrongful attitudes and beliefs.
