Sophie Powers and her whirlwind mini tour will stop at The Lounge at World Cafe Live on August 7th in Philly for a captivating performance. In addition to the live performance, Sophie Powers is touting a new track release: a DJ edit of “Obsessed,” a collaboration with U.K. artist Grimes.
Powers’ newest EP, Glitch: Lvl 1, includes “Blueprint,” along with “Overflow” featuring Ezekiel, “Awesome” (featuring Baby Tate), and “Woah!!” (featuring kets4eki). To accompany the audio vibes, the correlating music videos feature a cool blend of retro, pixelated graphics from the 80s and 90s and modern-day technology.
Sophie Powers has demonstrated a deep commitment to using her art to raise awareness about mental health issues. The profoundly personal track “Bathroom Floor” sheds light on her struggles with self-hatred and body dysmorphia, and she has pledged to support The National Alliance for Eating Disorders Organization in conjunction with its release.
Powers explained that Glitch: Lvl 1 is “full of fast paced hyperpop, industrial and pop-punk sounds, it’s the perfect record for summer ’24! The listener needs to be ready to hear this EP, as it tackles topics such as ARFID, depression, anxiety, breakups, ADHD, love, and navigating life as a teen today.”
She concluded, “With technology having changed so much in the past 15 years, the visuals and aesthetics tie in nostalgic and pixelated graphics from my childhood, alongside the tech we see today. That’s where the ‘player ready?’ pixelated video-game storyline fits in. It’s a blast from the past and a launch into the future. This is my last year of being a teen. I might as well go out with a bang,”
Tickets for Sophie Powers August 7th’s performance, with opening acts Novul and Zoe Ko, are available at the official World Cafe Live site. Doors open at 6.
