Sonny’s Cocktail Joint, the brainchild of husband-wife duo Chris Fetfatzes and Heather Annechiarico, is back with a bang after nearly three years of rebuilding following a devastating fire. Located at 1508 South Street, this neighborhood cocktail bar has reemerged as a vibrant hub for expertly crafted drinks, underground pizza, and nostalgic vibes, reopened to the public with a proper celebration on January 23 and 24.
The revamped Sonny’s Cocktail Joint takes inspiration from retro neighborhood bars and VFW halls, blending laid-back comfort with an elevated cocktail program. The design is an eclectic mix of checkered floors, vinyl, vintage beer art, textured glass, and a jukebox, evoking a warm, throwback aesthetic. The cozy backyard patio, adorned with mix-and-match seating, curated vintage finds, and living plants, offers a hidden escape for guests to relax and unwind.
The drink menu is a testament to Sonny’s Cocktail Joint’s commitment to creativity and quality. Beverage Director Scott Rodrigue spearheads a program featuring a European custom draft system with 13 lines for draft cocktails, nitro infusions, sub-zero draft freezer cocktails, and more. Standout features include the Jim Beam Highball Machine, cocktail glass freezers, and a collection of rare bourbons. From Japanese highballs to molecular mixology, the menu offers something for everyone, whether you’re a novice or a cocktail connoisseur.
The food program is helmed by Steven Seibel, aka Uncle Pizza Party, known for his underground pizza creations and comfort food with a twist. Diners can savor options like the Prince of South Street bar pie, truffle butter popcorn, and a decadent double-smash burger. The backyard-friendly snacks pair perfectly with the innovative cocktail offerings.
Open Wednesday through Sunday from 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM, Sonny’s Cocktail Joint welcomes everyone with its no-reservations, come-as-you-are ethos. Whether you’re here for the drinks, the vibes, or a bit of both, Sonny’s delivers memorable nostalgic South Street utopia.
