Abington Art Center presents the Solo Series Winter 2025, an exhibition that showcases the distinctive voices and visions of four artists. On view from January 16 through February 24, 2025, this collection brings together a tapestry of creative expressions that delve into memory, identity, and the preservation of personal and cultural histories.

The Solo Series Winter 2025 transforms the Abington Art Center into a vibrant space where each artist—Jenna Hannum, Eric Anthony Berdis, Alicia Finger, and Kate Strachan—occupies a dedicated gallery, offering visitors an intimate glimpse into their personal journeys.

Jenna Hannum: Elegy
In the Kellner Gallery, Jenna Hannum’s mixed media portraits combine scientific illustration with unconventional portraiture to chronicle memories, familial legacies, and personal grief. Inspired by the loss of her mother and sister, Hannum employs drawing, embroidery, and even ash-based inks created from medical records to craft evocative works. Her portraits, displayed under the title Elegy, allow her to process loss and serve as a symbolic caregiver to her loved ones, posthumously.

Eric Anthony Berdis: Paper Bullies and Friends of Dorothy’s
The Community Arts Gallery features Paper Bullies and Friends of Dorothy’s by Eric Anthony Berdis. Using fiber and installation art, Berdis explores themes of identity, resilience, and community through works that are as bold as they are deeply personal.

Alicia Finger: Reconstructed Places
Alicia Finger’s Reconstructed Places, housed in the Tile Gallery, invites viewers into a world where memories and experiences are reconstructed through layers of paint and collage. Finger’s method of cutting and reassembling water-based paintings mirrors the fluid and evolving nature of memory itself. Her works are dimensional, rich in texture, and steeped in the landscapes and visits that inspired their creation.

Kate Strachan: Invisible Sight
In the Book Room Gallery, Kate Strachan offers a deeply resonant exploration of identity and materiality through her mixed media works. Drawing from her Pennsylvania Dutch heritage, Strachan’s Invisible Sight acts as a curiosity cabinet filled with fragments of life, death, and spirituality. Incorporating materials such as wax, wood, felt, and ceramic, her art layers meaning and texture to create evocative relics that speak to the rituals and silences of human existence.

The Solo Series Winter 2025 opens with a reception on Thursday, January 16, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For those eager to delve deeper, two artist talk sessions will provide a rare opportunity to engage with the creators behind the work. The first session takes place on Saturday, February 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., while the second is scheduled for Wednesday, February 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
