Restaurateur Stephen Starr Supports the “Set In Philadelphia” Screenwriting Competition

Restaurateur Stephen Starr, a renowned figure in the culinary world, is lending his support to the “Set In Philadelphia” Screenwriting Competition, organized by the Greater Philadelphia Film Office. As the grand prize sponsor, Starr is offering a generous $10,000 cash reward to the writer of the best feature-length screenplay that captures the essence of Philadelphia and can be produced in the Greater Philadelphia region.

Promoting Philadelphia Flavor in Screenwriting

Starr’s enthusiasm for the city’s creative endeavors is evident in his sponsorship of the “Set In Philadelphia” Screenwriting Competition. While Starr’s passion lies in film and television production, his entrepreneurial journey led him to establish successful restaurants instead. Nevertheless, his love for the art form and pride in his hometown has inspired him to support aspiring talent through this competition.

Starr expressed his excitement about sponsoring the grand prize, stating, “As a film lover with immense hometown pride, I’m honored to sponsor this year’s Grand Prize in the ‘Set In Philadelphia’ Screenwriting Competition. I wanted to be a film and television producer long before I got into hospitality, but I ended up producing restaurants instead. I applaud the Greater Philadelphia Film Office for their success in fostering rising talent and attracting production to our great city.”

Open to Worldwide Talent

The “Set In Philadelphia” Screenwriting Competition welcomes submissions from screenwriters worldwide. Participants are encouraged to submit original feature-length screenplays or TV pilot scripts that can be produced in the Greater Philadelphia Metropolitan area. GPFO Executive Director Sharon Pinkenson expressed her gratitude, saying, “Stephen Starr is such an extraordinary innovator, lifelong leader, and friend to the Film Office. We are thrilled to present the Grand Prize in his honor.”
