iHeartMedia Philadelphia’s Rumba 106.1, #1 Para Reggaetón Y Variedad En Philadelphia made its debut.
Philadelphia has forever had a dedication to Latin music with venues at the North Philadelphia Hotel back in the day, some solid lo-fi radio… What has been missing is a staunch, high-powered FM signal to go with such high-powered and diverse music. To that end, as of the weekend, iHeartMedia Philadelphia, the corporate banner behind local stations such as WIOQ-FM, WRFF- FM, WISX-FM, WUSL-FM, WDAS-FM and WDAS-AM, debuted Rumba 106.1, # 1 Para Reggaetón Y Variedad En Philadelphia, a new FM station ripe with Reggaetón, Urban Pop, Bachata, Salsa and the like. Which means Rosalía, J. Balvin, Bad Bunny, Karol G, Shakira, Marc Anthony and more.
Rumba 106.1 started their broadcasts from Parx Casino Studios, with a ten-thousand-songs commercial-free set, and since the weekend, has not let up.
“History is unfolding in the city of Brotherly Love with the very first full-power FM signal dedicated to the Latino community, which has been longing for many years to have its voice represented in Philadelphia,” wrote P.J. Gonzalez, Senior VP of Programming for iHeartLatino in an email. “iHeartRadio is proud to introduce Rumba 106.1 as a companion station to the ever-excelling Latino culture.”
Quoting the latest Census Bureau statistics that show that the Philadelphia region contains the third-highest Latino population in the Northeast, Derrick Corbett, Senior VP of Programming for iHeartMedia Philadelphia wrote, “Our decision to create Rumba 106.1 is a recognition of the importance and vitality of the Greater Philadelphia region’s Latino population, which has grown to just over 15 percent over the past five years.”
