Now in its sixth year, the annual Philly Music Fest hits home for 2022 at local music halls and venues.
Now expanded to seven days, from October 10 to the 16th, one would be churlish not to say something about the sixth annual 2022 Philly Music Fest and its over 25 local bands across live venues such as Ardmore Music Hall, World Café Live, Johnny Brenda’s, The Dolphin Tavern, REC Philly and Underground Arts. Add in diverse bands and acts living in, or from the Philadelphia area such as Shamir, Mt. Joy, Low Cut Connie, Mannequin Pussy, Ron Gallo, Screaming Females, Empath, Saleka, Electric Candlelight, Lady HD, Kayleigh Goldsworthy, Ghosh, Echo Kid, Max Swan, Stereo League, Marielle Kraft, Riverby, The Ire, Justmadnice and Perpetual Motion, and you have yourself a banquet more Philly than the cream cheese.
Coordinated and funded predominantly by PMF chiefs/marrieds/non-profiteers Greg and Jenn Seltzer, their PMF, so far, has raised and donated over $275,000.00 to Philadelphia music education programs and artists in need… after paying the venues and artists to perform at their festival. “Our genre is Philly” is their motto, and good on them for making and maintaining the function, while ensuring that everyone involved gets a taste of the action.
According to its press legend, the 2022 Philly Music Fest’s economic impact toward those who need it most has grown each year since its start.
“In 2017, the non-profit donated $15,000 to music education programs. In 2018, the total increased to $25,000, then $40,000 in 2019, $50,000 in 2020 and $75,000 in 2021. Programs that receive donations include Rock to the Future, Girls Rock Philly, Settlement Music School, Musicopia, Beyond the Bars, Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, Live Connections, and Play on Philly. In addition to the donations directed to music programs for kids, PMF deployed over 330 micro-grants in 2020 and 2021 to local musicians and venue staff struggling as a result of COVID-19.”
Never overlook the unforeseen possibilities of those who can make things happen such as the Seltzers.
“It’s really cool to see how Philly Music Fest has grown,” says Adam Weiner, the front man of Low Cut Connie returns to Philly Music Fest 2022 as a headliner after playing a much smaller Philly Music Fest in 2018. “They are doing great work and I hope it continues. Music education gives kids a lifeline that they can cling to throughout their lives, and I am very happy to be participating in this festival and echo its mission.”
Do this, Philly. Go here to see how, where and when.
