The Philly Black Wine Festival is back for its second year, with an evening to bask in diversity, culture, and fine wines on Saturday, September 14th, 2024. Held at the historic Penn Museum in University City, this year’s “Eden Noir” festival invites wine lovers to indulge themselves in an experience that outshines the routine wine event.

Powered by Kabila Events, the festival highlights over 20 Black and minority-owned businesses, offeringevent features from wine tastings and product samples to live music, art exhibitions, and lite bites. With a focus on inclusivity, attendees are encouraged to dress in vibrant hues, from classic white and green to bold blue, purple, and animal prints or floral patterns.

Sonia Blount, Founder and Lead Curator of Kabila Events states that the festival’s mission is to champion marginalized businesses. Her vision extends beyond a single event, aiming to create a series of gatherings that connect underrepresented industries with diverse audiences, fostering a sense of community and celebrating excellence.

One of the festival’s key features is showcasing Black-owned wineries, a segment that, despite its challenges, represents a reckoning force in the American wine market. With Black consumers forming over 10 percent of the market, yet Black-owned wineries accounting for less than one percent, this event is key in boosting their voices and addressing systemic barriers.

Guests can look forward to activities, including three hours of wine tastings (four hours for VIP ticket holders), curated food and cocktail menus, live music, wine education sessions, and art. The festival will feature a lineup of wine vendors, including Yachi Blanc ’22, Amour Geneve, Strange Fruit Wines, Bent Wine Co., and more.

As Sonia Blount invites us to raise our glasses, the Philly Black Wine Festival heralds the heritage, excellence, and future of Black winemaking. Tickets are available now.
