The German Society of Pennsylvania is gearing up to host the eagerly awaited 11th Annual Philly Bierfest on February 24, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm. This much-anticipated event, a celebration of Pennsylvania’s rich German brewing heritage, stands out not just for its extensive selection of beers but also for its spotlight on women brewers, making it a landmark occasion in Philly’s beer calendar. Here’s a sneak peek into what Philly Bierfest 2024 has in store, underlining the event’s commitment to merging tradition with contemporary brewing excellence.
Philly Bierfest 2024 is a deep dive into Pennsylvania’s brewing history, showcasing over 50 German-style beers from 25 Pennsylvania craft brewers. Attendees will have the chance to sip on a variety of lagers, weizens, kölsches, and doppelbocks, reflecting the depth of German brewing influence in Pennsylvania. The event will also feature a selection of imported beers directly from Germany, including zero-proof and low-alcohol options, catering to all preferences.
A highlight of the festival is the German Beer Ambassador Award, which this year honors Carol Stoudt, America’s first female brewmaster and a pioneer in craft brewing in Pennsylvania. Her legacy, along with the contributions of other trailblazing women in the industry, will be celebrated through various activities, including a “PA Women Brewers Panel.”
The Philly Bierfest 2024 is an immersive experience featuring Pennsylvania-themed live entertainment, including Roller Derby Arm-Wrestling and live music by TC Cole Riot, as well as German-themed performances like Berlin-Style Beerlesque and Oompah-Funk by Polkadelphia. Educational opportunities abound, with seminars on beer pairing and book signings by beer historians.
Organized in partnership with the Philly Roller Derby and the Brewers of Pennsylvania, the event emphasizes community support and family-friendly vibes, offering supervised ‘kinder-care’ for parents and ‘Beer-Less’ tickets for non-drinkers. The festival encourages local home brewers with a Home Sweet HomeBräu Taste-Off, promising the winner a chance to brew a commercial batch of their recipe.
Philly Bierfest 2024 pledges to be a celebration of Pennsylvania’s enduring and genuine love affair with German brewing traditions, brought to life through a showcase of local craftsmanship, community spirit, and the pioneering role of women in the brewing industry. With tickets priced to welcome all, from beer aficionados to families looking for a unique weekend activity, this event is set to make a significant mark on Philadelphia’s cultural calendar.
