The Museum of Graffiti celebrates its 4th Anniversary at Art Basel with immersive exhibits, live art, and renowned artists.
The vibrant world of graffiti takes center stage as the Museum of Graffiti gears up for its highly anticipated 4th Anniversary celebration during Art Basel. From December 6 to 9, 2023, the museum will host an array of events, headlined by the groundbreaking solo exhibition, “Metaphysical Surrealism,” featuring the works of LA-based artist MEAR ONE. This milestone event promises a dynamic fusion of artistic expression, live painting sessions, and a curated selection of exhibits, firmly establishing the Museum of Graffiti as a global cultural hub.
The celebration’s highlight is MEAR ONE’s “Metaphysical Surrealism,” unveiling a new chapter in the artist’s transformative journey from graffiti pioneer to master oil painter. Guests will immerse themselves in the interplay of social commentary, mythological themes, and political insights that define MEAR ONE’s distinctive approach. The exhibition’s inauguration on December 6, 2023, will accompany a vibrant atmosphere at the Mi Campo Artist Lounge, where signature cocktails and interactive art programming will amplify the experience.
Adding to the excitement, Berlin’s renowned 1UP Crew will curate an exhibition featuring blown-up Polaroid photographs captured by Martha Cooper and Nika Kramer. This unique showcase includes artists such as 1UP, 2Alas, Vhils, Mark Gonzales, and others, who will hand embellish their photographs live at the Museum on December 6 and 7. The hand-painted Polaroid blow-ups will be transformed into limited edition prints, released on December 8, 2023, at 1 pm.
From December 6 to 9, guests can enjoy all the Mi Campo Artist Lounge offerings and other exciting activities, such as a complete sneaker customization bar presented by Modelo. On Wednesday, December 6, The Salty Donut presents Breakfast with Mear One from 11 am to 1 pm, which is the first look of the Museum of Graffiti’s marquee exhibition entitled Metaphysical Surrealism, featuring a special DJ set by The Gaslamp Killer and print release. At 3:05 pm, MOG x Atomik Umbrella release party presented by Only In Dade will take place. The Museum of Graffiti 4th Anniversary Party (invitation only) will start at 8 pm.
On Thursday, December 7, there will be a limited edition OS GEMEOS skate deck release at 11 am, the CES book release event at 2 pm, and PETER PAID commemorative poster signing. CES’ first book, entitled From the Desk of CES, is a compilation of over 100 rare illustrations from the graffiti genius. On Friday, December 8, there will be a print release in partnership with 1UP Crew, supported by Polaroid. Legendary artists such as 2Alas, Vhils, Mark Gonzales, Boo Johnson, Futura, Maya Hayuk, Eneri, Reds, and Revok will also be featured.
