Northern Liberties Business Improvement District is hosting the fifth annual Monster Mash Bloody Mary Contest, scheduled for October 19-20 and 26-27, 2024. Bartenders from the Northern Liberties neighborhood hot spots compete for the title of the city’s top Bloody Mary with recipes infused with spices, garnishes, and a dash of Halloween charm.
The lineup of participating restaurants and bars includes Northern Liberties finest. Over at North 3rd, the “Black Widow Bloody Mary” layers their famous spicy mix with bold black vodka, garnished with crisp celery, a spicy hot pepper, candied bacon, smoky sausages, and a candy eyeball, served in a Tajín-rimmed glass.
Silk City brings the “Skull Island” to the table—a tropical twist featuring pineapple vodka, mango puree, and a blend of spices, garnished with pineapple-chipotle gummy skulls, grilled pineapple, hot peppers, and spiced ice cubes served in a tall Tiki glass.
Añejo Philadelphia presents their house Bloody Maria, crafted with La Gritona Reposado tequila and a mysterious blend of Halloween spices. Bourbon & Branch introduces the “Sangre de la Gritona,” a tomatillo-based Bloody Mary featuring green chile vodka and a tajín rim, served with a syringe of spicy red bloody mix, and an extravagant garnish of a smash burger, Detroit pizza slice, chicken nuggets, bacon, and onion rings.
Jerry’s Bar serves up the “Dragon’s Breath,” a signature mix with Monte Alban Mezcal, spiced with Chipotle Tabasco and habanero simple syrup, garnished with a jumbo shrimp, candied bacon, celery, a pickled veggie skewer, a black charcoal salt rim, and a flaming lime.
SET NoLibs introduces “The SET Spice,” a Bloody Mary mix infused with sesame and Thai chili sriracha sauce, topped with a bulgogi cheesesteak slider.
Standard Tap offers the “BLT Bloody Mary,” their signature mix with house-infused bacon Haku vodka, a smoked paprika rim, and a miniature BLT garnish.
El Camino Real offers the “Vampire’s Kiss,” with bloody ice cubes topped with pork belly, pickled garlic, and vampire teeth. Figo Ristorante offers “Carrie’s Revenge,” featuring basil-infused vodka, San Marzano tomato juice, and hot Italian giardiniera, all served in a blood bag with a syringe.
While drinks are the motive, the Monster Mash Bloody Mary Contest is about community and celebration. Visitors are encouraged to make brunch reservations, enjoy the creative cocktails, and cast their votes for the best Bloody Mary in Northern Liberties.
