Meek Mill expands and broadens his, as well as Culture Currency’s horizons, by signing with talent agency, WME.
After we wrote about him splitting from Jay-Z’s Roc Nation management (on friendly terms) and the Atlantic label (probably, not so much on friendly terms) in July, Philadelphia rapper and activist Meek Mill announced that he will drop 10 independently-released mixtapes (starting August 18, “the day my dad died is when I start wylinnnnnnn again! I’m not dropping albums on Friday either,” he Tweeted) and bought himself a self-designed $200,000 Dream Catcher-style Dreamchasers chain to celebrate. To continue the celebration and put his money where his mouth is when it comes to independence, Meek Mill is announcing this morning, August 11, the forming of a strategic partnership with the world-leading talent agency, WME, in which to focus on what the team calls “the next wave of cultural leaders,” expand Meek’s business under the “Culture Currency” (identifying and supporting his network of artists, athletes, and entertainers so to take better advantage of their influence on culture, and open up more opportunities for them within the entertainment, brand and business space) and expand their global reach as well as that of Millie’s.
“The partnership between WME and Culture Currency is a strategic hybrid structure that will bring resources and opportunities to entertainers,” wrote Meek Mill in a press statement. “I have grown and learned the business in an unorthodox way that is effective through relationships built on talent and creativity. As an entertainer, I see us as part of the first generation that truly has influence and connections spread throughout social justice, music, sports, the movie industry, politics, business and the tech world. Taking advantage of this opportunity will allow us to give others the same chance to catch their dreams. Thank you WME for opening the door to build this bridge.”
WME President Ari Greenburg wrote of the Philadelphia rapper, activist and business leader, “Meek Mill is one of the most influential voices shaping our culture today, whether it be in art, business, or social justice, and his network is equally impactful. This partnership will provide an important pipeline for WME to support future cultural influencers and to provide Meek with another platform to continue building his business.”
