Is there life after Roc Nation? For Meek Mill, there is.
In the last several days, Meek Mill, Philly rapper and activist extraordinaire, has jumped onto Twitter with messages of self-empowerment and career survival.
Once we find out how to drop thank link directly to the consumer and they don’t have a hassle downloading it and playing it as they would on a streaming service the code is cracked! This black art, so much money I’m taking the risk I really know how I rap!— MeekMill (@MeekMill) July 23, 2022
Gotta bust power moves they never seen b4!— MeekMill (@MeekMill) July 25, 2022

All of this newfound sense of freedom and empowerment stems from the fact that last week, Meek Mill left Roc Nation Management, the Jay-Z owned talent agency and media company that the Philadelphia artist has been represented by since 2012. With that, Meek also left his affiliation with Roc Nation/Atlantic, the label that released his last several albums such as “Wins & Losses” (2017), “Championships” (2018), and “Expensive Pain” (2021).
Most of Meek Mill’s problems seemed to stem from the fact that he believed Atlantic bungled the further promotion around “Expensive Pain” after it was released to the top of the streaming/sales charts.
Back in February 2022, Meek Tweeted out his displeasure with his label.
They didn’t put nothing into expensive pain and then said I can’t drop another project for 9 months at the end of my contract after I made them 100’s of millions ….. how would can anybody survive that … most rappers can’t speak because they depend on these companies “ I don’t”— MeekMill (@MeekMill) February 1, 2022
So, the split from his business allegiances was brewing.
But, as Meek made clear, there is no animosity between he and Jay-Z, the man/mogul with whom Mill shares the formation of the Reform Alliance, their nonprofit organization with 76ers’ owner Michael Rubin to work against unjust sentencing laws and toward fair prison legislation. Mill’s Dream Chasers Records, a label he moved to Roc Nation in 2019, and other investments with Jay-Z are still in the pink according to Meek Tweets last week.
All I seen today was meek and roc part ways …I’m personally handling my own business so I can take risk and grow ..we came to that agreement together..I have a label deal with roc for my artist and I got reform super tied with them and many other investments wit jigga https://t.co/y36jgmBQJz— MeekMill (@MeekMill) July 11, 2022
With a tight, current show schedule and rumors that he’s already recorded a handful of potent raging tracks, my guess is that Meek Mill is going to be finer than wine, and bolder than ever…On his terms.
