Little Walter’s, is hosting its inaugural Wigilia Dinner on Monday, December 23, at 6 PM. This festive meal at 2049 E Hagert Street celebrates the cherished Polish Christmas Eve tradition with an exquisite, multi-course feast curated by Chef and Owner Michael Brenfleck in collaboration with some of the region’s top Polish chefs, including Pat Alfiero (Heavy Metal Sausage Co.), Krzysztof Babik (Comcast Technology Center), Patrick Czerniak (Square 1682), and Ryan Elmore (Mom-Mom’s Kitchen).
Wigilia, a traditional Christmas Eve supper in Poland, consists of 12 meatless dishes honoring the animals that kept Jesus warm at birth, biblically. Little Walter’s Wigilia Dinner brings this rich tradition to Philly with an impressive menu full of Polish flavors.
The Wigilia Dinner menu includes a variety of bread and spreads, such as Braided Potato Bread with roasted shallots, raisins, and cultured butter. Seasonal pickled vegetable salads, or surówki, add a bright and tangy touch to the feast. Guests can enjoy zupy (soups) like Barszcz, a vibrant beet soup enriched with smoked oil. Kawior i Wódka offers a delightful pairing of caviar with paczki (Polish donuts) and a shot of potato vodka for a true taste of Polish tradition.
For the fish course, the menu features a trio of Pickled Herring, Steelhead Salmon, and Smoked Trout, offering rich and savory flavors. The Pierogi z Kapusta, stuffed with cabbage and topped with mustard sour cream and rye breadcrumbs, is sure to be a highlight. Braised cabbage and mushroom with truffle, known as Kapusta z Trufla, brings earthy sophistication to the table. The Gołąbki, stuffed cabbage rolls with farro, wood-roasted mushrooms, and piennelo dill sauce, provide a hearty, satisfying main course.
To end the meal, dessert offerings include Cold Wheat Porridge with poppy seeds and puffed rye, a selection of traditional Polish cookies, and Fruit Tea with amaro and smoked apple chips, ensuring a sweet conclusion to this festive feast.
