The ink on the contracts of the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft that happened in Los Angeles at the end of July is barely dry. But one thing that is becoming resoundingly clear is that the Philadelphia Phillies’ selection of Justin Crawford in the first round with the 17th overall selection of the 2022 Major League Baseball draft may be the best thing that this team’s front office has done since welcoming Greg Luzinski’s sausage stand to Citizens Bank Park in an exclusive contract.
Signing with the Philadelphia team for $3.89 million – a bargain considering other new, unproven but high-ticket players – Justin Crawford comes highly recommended and with a stellar DNA for the game of baseball. Justin’s dad Carl Crawford played 14 seasons in the majors and his second cousin, J. P. Crawford, is currently in play for the Seattle Mariners. Justin’s own history, however, bears rich fruit: he spent his freshman year of high school at Rolling Hills Preparatory School in California before transferring to Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. By the time he got to his junior and senior year in 2022 he was batting .503 with five home runs, 52 RBIs, and twenty stolen bases. WTF!?!
Crawford, a left-handed-hitting outfielder is set to join the Phils’ minor league team, first. But great things are expected of him with a huge payoff promise according to a family friend and an outfielder who knows the biz.
Fellow out-fielding legend Johnny Damon jumped on Twitter and hit TMZ over the weekend to make the promise that the Philadelphia Phillies’ top draft pick is primed to have “a MONSTER MLB career!” and that “he’ll probably steal 500 bases… hit a couple hundred home runs. Just be a menace to his opponents throughout the years.”
Yes, the Phillies got trounced by the NY Mets over the weekend. But with Justin Crawford on their side, it sounds as if they have something to look forward to.
