Name: Jonene Lee
Occupation: NoName Art Gallery Owner, Curator, and Photographer.
Current city: Philadelphia, PA.
Born and raised there or imported? Born about an hour outside of Philly, in the country. I needed more color and culture, so I moved to the city (Philly) when I was in my 20s.
What is your connection to your current city? Art. And I mean that as an umbrella term. The overarching word that, I think, holds Philly together. My art first came through as a “B-Girl” in my 20s, then pivoted and began taking photos of the hip hop culture and now I have an art gallery. I’ve been able to do all of it because of the nurturing art scene Philly has. Plus, we all kind of know each other in some way. Philly is small and the connections run deep.
What’s your favorite restaurant? That’s a tough one. Philly has so many great spots to eat! I honestly don’t think I have one. I live in Chestnut Hill and recently have become addicted to Acai bowls. There is a place across the street from the gallery and I eat one, sometimes, two every day.
Best place to shop? For accessories and gifts, I love The Sable Collective! It’s an online shop but the curator Shanti has all the best pieces.
What is your one favorite “best kept secret” about your city? Something that you and only a few others know about but everyone should? Philly has one of the best music and DJ scenes.
What makes your city, Jonene Lee’s city? What do you absolutely love about it? I love the music and art scene in Philly. It’s one of the best.
