Jamaaladeen Tacuma – Essential Music for the Next 7 Days

This week’s Listenin’ Booth includes music from the Philadelphia-based free jazz bassist, Jamaaladeen Tacuma. Plus four other essential tunes you should be listening to right now.

Round As Sound – Jamaaladeen Tacuma

Round As Sound is taken from the self-produced DNA Galleria, a fantastic collection of compositions that was a result of ongoing collaborations with Philadelphia musicians, completely improvising. Round As Sound features celebrated Philadelphia spoken word artist and poet, Ursula Rucker.

What’s Next – Krunj

Jamaaladeen Tacuma

KRUNJ is a genre-bending band from Brisbane, Australia fusing neo-soul, acid jazz and psychedelia. What’s Next? with its thoughtful odd time signature pulse is dynamic and captivating.

Covered Spread – Jah$tar

Jamaaladeen Tacuma

I recently discovered Jah$tar, a super energetic and gifted rap artist from Philadelphia. The gritty boom bap-laden Covered Spread is the stand-out track from his newly released mixtape project, I Think You Got Me F***** Up. Brilliant.

No Way – Mansur Brown

Jamaaladeen Tacuma

Mansur Brown is an artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, from London. NAQI, Vol. 1 is his new project, a short 6-track EP presenting some truly amazing compositions that sound inspired from North African and Middle Eastern music, with fast-paced guitar melodies that feel warm and embracing, with dynamic rhythms brought by both the smooth guitar leads and the heavy basslines that fill the track up with menacing energy. Brilliant stuff.

Coochi (A Bedtime Story) – Shygirl

Jamaaladeen Tacuma

Nymph is the name of the debut full-length album from UK rapper and singer and DJ, Shygirl. The latest single Coochie (A Bedtime Story) is sort of an explicit, celestial hyper pop lullaby.
