AXS TV is airing 14 episodes of Daryl Hall’s, of Philadelphia’s Hall & Oates, multi-award-winning music series “Live from Daryl’s House.”
Philadelphia native and Temple University graduate Daryl Hall has been a lot of things to a lot of people. Hall has been a partner to fellow local John Oates since 1972 for their hit soul-pop duo, Hall & Oates. The two of them are the holders of Hoagie Fest with Live Nation that we hope is still in motion, with Squeeze, for its May 23 debut at the Mann Center. Hall has a love of all things architecture as he restores and preserves historic homes in the United States and England – even hosting a 2014 television show “Daryl’s Restoration Over-Hall” on the DIY Network to show off the re-design of one of his homes in Connecticut. Ever since 2007, however, Hall has been the host with the mostest with his (then) on-line series/webcast “Live from Daryl’s House.”
Starting from his home in Millerton, NY, and more recently from his club, Daryl’s House in Pawling, NY, Hall has hosted chats and duets with The O’Jays, Smokey Robinson, KT Tunstall, Joe Walsh, Rob Thomas, Todd Rundgren, Darius Rucker, Eric Hutchinson, Cheap Trick, Aaron Neville, Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger of The Doors and many others singing tunes from the Hall and Oates songbook, classic soul covers and more. Eighty-two episodes were filmed from 2007–2016, before July 2018 when BMG partnered with executive producers Hall and Jonathan Wolfson to secure worldwide rights and to produce new segments.
“I always had this idea of, like, a front-porch session,” Hall once told me. “After I’d already played the world I thought it’d be funny if the world came to my stoop. It was that simple. Let people come to me rather than me trying to be everywhere at once.”
Of his guests, Hall said, “Everyone who I’m working with brings something special. I’ve always strived to work with exceptions to the rule. I’m looking for artists with the eternal spark who can bring something interesting to the table.”
No longer solely on the internet or that raw, for that matter, AXS TV announced today – no Aprils Fool, though – that the network is airing 14 episodes of the multi-award-winning music series “Live from Daryl’s House.” Premiering on Sunday, April 19 at 9 p.m. (ET), AXS TV is curating a roster of the popular series’ episodes, highlighting an eclectic blend of artists with appeal to the Network’s diverse audience.
“They’re artists, old and new, who, I think, are exceptions to the rule,” said Hall. “That’s how I’ve always worked and collaborated. By interacting with them, that creates a new sound. Will it affect what I record next if I do a solo album? I don’t know. It’s all so seamless to me now. All I know is that doing this on the Internet allows me to have a raw, very close feeling to each song.”
AXS TV selected 14 eclectic episodes of all-star appearances, starting April 19 with nu-soul singer CeeLo Green, followed by episodes featuring folk hero Jason Mraz (April 26); versatile vocalist Chris Daughtry (May 3); a Mother’s Day broadcast with singer/songwriter Grace Potter (May 10); hip hop pioneer Wyclef Jean (May 17); country superstar Darius Rucker (May 31); chart-topping pop-rockers Train (June 7); multi-talented musician Aloe Blacc (June 14); indie-pop stars Fitz & The Tantrums (June 21); singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw (June 28); emo favorite Patrick Stump (July 12); bluesy breakout artist Elle King (July 19); GRAMMY-winning songwriter Rob Thomas (July 26); and Utah alt-rockers Neon Trees (August 2).
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with AXS TV, which in my opinion, is the best house on cable for Daryl,” wrote Executive Producer Jonathan Wolfson, Hall’s manager.
“I am happy to say that the original at-home show is back on TV,” wrote Hall.
