The Barnes Foundation’s annual Art Ball on Friday, October 18, 2024, is a vibrant celebration of creativity, community, and the much-anticipated Mickalene Thomas: All About Love exhibition.
Bringing together a dynamic mix of artists, philanthropists, collectors, and community partners, the Barnes Art Ball promises an evening that directly supports the Foundation’s educational mission, exhibition programs, and the meticulous care of its world-renowned collection. Funds raised will also bolster a wide array of community, artistic, and scholarly projects, reinforcing the Barnes Foundation’s commitment to making art accessible to all.
At the heart of this year’s Art Ball is the opening of Mickalene Thomas: All About Love, the first major international tour dedicated to the groundbreaking work of artist Mickalene Thomas. Curated by Renée Mussai, the exhibition will feature approximately 50 of Thomas’s works created over the past two decades. The Annenberg Court will be transformed into a sensual and dazzling space, inspired by Thomas’s monumental four-panel photo collage Noir est beau (Joséphine Baker 3).
The 2024 Barnes Art Ball is an art show and a campus-wide extravaganza brimming with live performances, gourmet food, and eclectic music. Eventgoers will enjoy special performances by DJ Aura in the Annenberg Court. Black Buttafly, a talented keyboardist, songwriter, and beatmaker, will deliver a soulful set in the Lower Level lounge. Getting Better Everyday Step Team from Camden, New Jersey, choreographed by Indigo Pascall, will perform outdoors. The Illustrious Blacks, a DJ duo fusing funk, hypnotic house, and cosmic pop, takes over the West Terrace.
This year’s Barnes Art Ball will occur on Friday, October 18, 2024, starting at 7:00 PM at the Barnes Foundation, located at 2025 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA 19130. Tickets are priced at $500 per person and are available through the Barnes Foundation’s website. Guests will have exclusive after-hours access to the Mickalene Thomas: All About Love exhibition and the Barnes collection. The attire for the evening is black-tie or artistic formal, inviting guests to dress in a manner that reflects the event’s elegant and creative atmosphere. This is a ball, after all.
