Steve Grasse’s Art in the Age has returned as Art in the Age Spirits with a new business model and is debuting its latest creations, the Siege of Wolves Spiced Rum and Dunce Bourbon Whiskey. After closing in September 2023, the Art in the Age team has worked intensely to acquire a new Pennsylvania distilling license and establish a bottling facility in Ambler, Pennsylvania. This development paves the way for introducing innovative spirits crafted at their sister distillery, Tamworth Distilling.
Heralding this evolution of Art in the Age Spirits are two new products: Siege of Wolves Spiced Rum and Dunce Bourbon Whiskey. Siege of Wolves Spiced Rum is a unique blend that will resonate with Philadelphians and loyal fans of Art in the Age. Internally described as the offspring of Art in the Age ROOT and Sailor Jerry Rum, this spirit combines the familiar flavors of sweet birch, maple, chicory, and star anise. The creation pays homage to the historical event in Tamworth, NH, where the townspeople fought off a siege of wolves in 1830. Siege of Wolves and its 80-proof, 5-year-old bourbon counterpart, Dunce Bourbon Whiskey, are now available statewide. They can be enjoyed in cocktails at over 10 of Philadelphia’s best bars and restaurants, with more establishments to follow.
Steven Grasse shared his excitement about the return of ROOT in the form of Siege of Wolves. “We literally get hundreds of inquiries per year about bringing back ROOT. It was truly a cult hit. Now that we have our distilling license sorted out, I thought let’s make some noise by making that the first spirit Art in the Age 2.0 launches in PA. Siege of Wolves is literally ROOT (same ingredients) but with an aged Caribbean Rum base. The original ROOT was also rum-based but it was not aged rum. So SIEGE is ROOT, but a helluva lot smoother. And there is a great, true story behind the name.”
