Pentimenti Gallery proudly presents Tender Ground, Anna Wehrwein’s first solo exhibition, opening on Friday, January 17. This thoughtful collection invites viewers to explore the emotional connections that define our shared humanity. Through a captivating interplay of art history, abstraction, and personal narrative, Wehrwein’s work transforms ordinary moments into vibrant expressions of care and tenderness. The evening will feature an opening reception from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, beginning with an insightful Artist Dialogue from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
Born in 1990, Anna Wehrwein holds a BS in Art and a BA in English/Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as an MFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of Tennessee. Her work has graced the walls of galleries such as Thierry Goldberg in New York and Troost Gardens in Kansas City. Wehrwein has also participated in artist residencies and was awarded the Josephine Mercy Heathcote Fellowship at MacDowell in 2019.
Anna Wehrwein’s Tender Ground explores openness and enclosure through layered brushstrokes and scribbles, integrating her loved ones into lush landscapes. The exhibition features paintings and works on paper, underscoring Wehrwein’s skill in experimenting with texture and form. Her thoughtful approach invites diverse interpretations, encouraging viewers to reflect on their relationships and the bonds that shape their lives.
