Philly assembles an impressive showing and makes history for the 2022 Emmy Awards.
When the nominations were read, on Tuesday, for the 2022 Emmy Awards for excellence in television programming, it’s no secret that the Philadelphia-based ABC sitcom, “Abbott Elementary”, earned 7 Emmy nominations, with its creator, writer and local hero Quinta Brunson making Emmy history by being the youngest Black woman nominated in the outstanding lead actress in a comedy acting category. A big deal.
Receiving seven nominations in total, “Abbott Elementary” also was valued with its two best supporting actresses, outstanding comedy, best supporting actor, writing, and casting categories. That includes a nom, too, for Philadelphia’s Sheryl Lee Ralph, so that’s sweet, too.
Beyond “Abbott Elementary”, Philly was additionally represented by Powelton Village native Colman Domingo, who received his first Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama for his role in HBO’s “Euphoria”
For anyone wondering, or still watching, the second most Philly-centric series of the 2021-2022 television and streaming watchers’ season, the Overbrook Will Smith-based Fresh Prince of Bel-Air re-imagining at Peacock got ignored at Emmy nominating time. Save for its first two episodes, I don’t even know who cares about the show any longer.
The Primetime Emmy Awards will air on September 12th on NBC and Peacock. Yell loud for the “Abbott Elementary” crew.
